Job summary

NinjaOne is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement scalable solutions for our IT Operations product suite. You’ll contribute to enterprise-grade software used by thousands of customers, focusing on performance, reliability, and scale.

You will work across Java/Kotlin services, database design, and distributed architectures, collaborating with multiple squads to deliver robust features and improvements. The role supports hybrid remote work within the USA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in Java software development for product applications or equivalent.
• 6+ years of experience designing and operating highly scalable software systems.
• Deep understanding of OOP design principles and scalable data structures.
• Knowledge of API best practices and REST service development (Jersey/Spring).
• Relational database design, development, and performance optimization at scale.
• Experience with client-server development, event-driven architectures, and message brokers (RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS).
• Experience with caching systems (Redis) and strong testing practices.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills across distributed systems.
• Strong Linux scripting and familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes for deployments.
• Experience with AI coding assistants and LLM-based tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Java and Kotlin Software Development: contribute to large-scale applications with quality-first standards.
• Code commits and shipping products; implement design patterns for enterprise challenges in a startup environment.
• Debugging and profiling production Java services; resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Database optimization: design and optimize relational schemas, indexing, and queries at scale.
• Mentoring: support growth of engineers through feedback and coaching.
• Code reviews: provide constructive feedback and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Documentation: record system architecture, tradeoffs, and procedures.
• Cross-team collaboration: work with backend, infra, and product teams for reliability and improvements.
• Other duties as needed.
