Teledyne FLIR is seeking a seasoned software engineer to join our defense and sensor systems team. You will design, build, and sustain embedded backend and standalone Java applications, leading efforts from requirements through deployment and maintenance.

Collaborate across software, hardware, and systems engineers, guide technical execution, and deliver in real-world mission scenarios. The role emphasizes leadership, strong communication, and multi-threaded Linux development.

Qualifications

• Expert Java development and software architecture focused on embedded backend and standalone apps.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and multi-threaded skills.
• Experience with Git, Jira, and Linux-based development.
• Experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Advantage: Ubuntu, C++, Bash, Android, ATAK, MIL-STD-498, software security, or hardware integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded backend and standalone Java-based applications
• Lead software efforts from requirements through deployment and sustainment
• Develop and troubleshoot multi-threaded applications in Linux environments
• Manage source code, reviews, and configuration control using Git
• Track work, issues, and deliverables using Jira and related tools
• Coordinate technical activities across engineering teams
• Integrate software with networked and serial-connected devices
• Support system integration, testing, customer events, and field activities
• Estimate effort, track progress, and deliver against commitments
• Contribute to engineering process improvements and technical documentation
