Job summary

AutoNation seeks a Senior Java Software Engineer to build AWS cloud services for critical business systems. You will write high-quality Java code using Spring frameworks and work on high-throughput, transactional applications.

Responsibilities include design documents, dependency analysis, timelines, testing, deployment support, and mentoring teammates in best practices. Hybrid on-prem/cloud experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in high-volume transactional systems in hybrid on-prem + cloud.
• Extensive experience with Java and core frameworks (Spring Boot or Spring MVC).
• Experience with IDEs like IntelliJ or Eclipse.
• Strong Maven, Git, REST/SOAP web services, and relational DBs (SQL Server or MySQL).
• Familiarity with AWS services (SQS/SNS/Lambda).
• Experience with Scrum and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement high-quality code components meeting requirements.
• Generate design or specification documents capturing requirements while following best practices.
• Analyze dependencies to determine optimal implementation within time/resource constraints.
• Perform cost-benefit analysis to maximize short-term productivity and long-term maintainability.
• Create detailed timelines and duration estimates for work effort.
• Present solution overview to technical leadership or stakeholders as needed.
• Implement efficient and reliable software components and services.
• Conduct unit and performance tests to ensure quality deliverables.
• Support QA with automation and scripting requirements.
• Assist in deployment and troubleshooting across environments.
• Create thorough technical and end-user documentation of applications.
