Colonial Group in Greenwich, CT, seeks a Senior Java Developer for a hybrid role (3 days in office / 2 days remote). You will drive the full SDLC for mission-critical financial applications, with emphasis on Java Spring, AI-assisted coding tools, and cross-functional collaboration.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of experience, strong OO design skills, and hands-on JDBC/Oracle work. The team values organized, deadline-driven professionals who can lead technology initiatives across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5-10 years of experience designing and building medium-to-large scale applications using Java and/or Python/Perl on Linux.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java Spring, including Spring Boot (microservices) and traditional Spring applications.
• Strong grasp of object-oriented design principles and common design patterns.
• Experience with JDBC and relational databases (Oracle preferred).
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools across the SDLC.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across development teams on critical rollouts.
• Knowledge of financial instruments or motivation to learn financial markets and concepts.

About your Team:

Our team builds and supports mission-critical applications that power Interactive Brokers' back office, accounting, treasury, and compliance functions globally.

We're looking for a Senior Java Developer to drive the full software development lifecycle — from planning and prioritization through testing and release. With strong technical depth and the communication skills to align technical and business stakeholders.

This role suits someone who is organized, deadline-driven, process-disciplined, and thrives in cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and resilient financial applications
• Optimize and refactor existing code to improve reliability and performance.
• Partner with other developers and stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and deliver development initiatives

• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar) across the software development life cycle.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience partnering across development teams on critical roll outs.
• Knowledge of financial instruments or a strong motivation to learn financial markets and concepts.

Nice to have :

• Experience with Git, Gerrit, Bitbucket, Gradle, and/or Ivy.
• Experience building or integrating MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to connect AI tools with internal systems, enabling faster, AI-assisted development workflows.
• Experience developing web applications using Spring Boot
• Experience with SWIFT MT/MX messaging standards.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including data lake architectures (using Parquet file formats), Athena, and EC2, for building and operating datadriven, production-grade applications.
