Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior ITS Engineer to lead transportation-system projects involving traffic signals, ITS, lighting, and electrical design. You will review and develop contract documents, coordinate with staff, and mentor junior engineers on challenging programs.

You will travel 20%–40% and collaborate with clients and regulators, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with IDOT, CDOT, and IL Tollway standards. A PE license and 10 years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering; PE license required.
• 10 years of related experience; travel may be required.
• Equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and review design work to develop final construction documents.
• Develop design criteria with clients and prepare presentation materials.
• Lead electrical systems design and construction documentation with multi-discipline staff.
• Mentor project engineers and junior staff on projects.
• Determine materials and methodologies for detailing.
• Prepare and edit technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with standards/regulations (IDOT/CDOT/IL Tollway).
• Serve as Quality Control and independent reviewer for other consultants.
• Assist in budgets, schedules, and monitor projects through letting/closeout.
• Support sales and act as Project Technical Lead for Electrical/ITS projects.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation/Structural Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license

10 years of related experience
