Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies, LLC is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to lead a dedicated team in building, securing, and maintaining enterprise IT systems across on-site locations in Arlington, VA and customer sites. The role emphasizes automation, engineering best practices, and liaison with stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a DoD background, active Secret clearance, extensive VMware experience, and proficiency in scripting and security hardening.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent full‑time professional experience.
• 7+ years of relevant experience.
• 2+ years leading technical teams or directing engineering workflows.
• Previous experience supporting the Department of Defense.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
• Extensive experience with virtualization (VMware).
• Experience troubleshooting complex networks.
• Experience scripting (Bash, Python, C).
• Understanding TCP/IP concepts (TCP/UDP, VLANs, DHCP, routing).
• Experience provisioning physical and virtual devices.
• IAT Level II cert or higher (IAT Level III a plus).
• Experience hardening devices and updating DISA STIGs.
• Vulnerability remediation in closed/air-gapped networks.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and direct a team of systems and network engineers.
• Architect and oversee installation of server/networking devices in standard racks and enclosures.
• Perform server updates, patch management, and software installations enterprise‑wide.
• Maintain servers (virtual and physical) across Windows, Red Hat and VMware environments.
• Install and provision hardware and evaluate future needs.
• Implement and review security processes for RMF readiness and STIG compliance.
• Develop and maintain golden images for OS and VMs.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
