Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Senior IT Systems Engineer to lead a team of engineers for building, integrating, and securing IT systems in Arlington, VA or San Diego, CA. The role emphasizes security, RMF/STIG readiness, and ongoing automation while mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years’ experience, DoD exposure, and extensive VMware/Linux knowledge, plus scripting and risk-based security practices. On-site work and travel up to 25% are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
• 7+ years' relevant experience
• 2+ years leading technical teams or directing engineering workflows
• Direct support experience for the Department of Defense
• Willingness to travel up to 25%
• Extensive experience with VMware or similar virtualization
• Experience troubleshooting complex networks
• Scripting in Bash, Python, or C to automate tasks
• Understanding TCP/IP concepts (TCP/UDP/VLAN/DHCP/routing)
• Experience provisioning both physical devices and VMs
• Security+ or CCNA or equivalent IAT Level II (IAT Level III a plus)
• Experience hardening devices and updating DISA STIG checklists
• Experience patching/remediating in closed/air-gapped networks

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and task a team of systems and network engineers with high engineering standards
• Architect and oversee installation of server/networking devices in standard racks and enclosures
• Perform regular server updates, patch management, and software installations across the enterprise
• Operate and maintain physical and virtual servers running Red Hat, Windows, and VMware
• Install and provision hardware and evaluate future hardware needs
• Implement, maintain, and review security processes to ensure RMF readiness and STIG compliance
• Develop and maintain golden OS images and VMs for business areas
• Create, review, and maintain detailed documentation of systems and networks for varied stakeholders
