Job summary

NHS Dumfries & Galloway is seeking an experienced Senior IT Specialist to join our Digital Department. This role maintains and supports our complex computing, voice and data networks across a regional footprint, ensuring high availability and security for clinical and corporate systems.

You will act as a technical lead, resolve escalated issues, contribute to disaster recovery planning, and drive continuous service improvement while mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience maintaining and supporting complex IT infrastructure.
• Experience with enterprise networks, servers, and security best practices.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist support for Local and Wide Area Networks.
• Deliver expert support for server environments including Microsoft Server, VMware, Unix/Linux.
• Manage Cisco network, wireless, telephony, and firewall technologies.
• Lead planning, configuration, installation and optimization of network and server infrastructure.
• Implement and test disaster recovery and backup procedures.
• Proactively monitor availability, security, and performance of IT systems.
• Provide guidance and technical leadership to User Support and IM&T colleagues.
• Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation and inventories.
• Liaise with contractors, vendors, and NHS stakeholders for coordinated delivery.
• Support enforcement of IT security policies and standards.
