Job summary

NHS Dumfries & Galloway is seeking an experienced Senior IT Specialist to maintain and support our complex computing, voice, and data infrastructure across a regional network. You will ensure high availability, security, and resilience of critical clinical and corporate systems for about 5,000 users and 400+ servers.

You will act as a technical lead, resolving escalated issues, supporting major systems, and contributing to disaster recovery and continuous service improvement.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience maintaining and supporting complex NHS IT infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of networks, servers, security and disaster recovery planning.
• Ability to lead on major technical issues and mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist support for Local and Wide Area Networks across the region.
• Deliver expert support for server environments including Microsoft Server, VMware, Unix/Linux.
• Manage and maintain Cisco network, wireless, telephony, and firewall technologies.
• Lead planning, configuration, installation, and optimisation of network and server infrastructure.
• Implement, maintain, and test disaster recovery and backup procedures.
• Conduct proactive monitoring to ensure availability, security, and performance of IT systems.
• Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical leadership to User Support and IM&T colleagues.
• Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, system inventories, and audit trails.
• Liaise with external contractors, vendors, and NHS stakeholders to ensure coordinated delivery of services.
• Support enforcement of IT security policies and best practice standards.
