Job summary

Michels Corporation in Madison, WI seeks an IT Manager of Data Platform & Engineering to lead the enterprise data platform, build the data engineering function, and deliver trusted, governed data products. This founding role partners with business and IT to enable analytics, automation, and AI while creating a scalable data foundation for the future.

The ideal candidate will recruit and lead the data engineering team, oversee ingestion, storage, transformation, and orchestration, and balance

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
8+ years in data engineering or related fields with 4+ years leading technical teams.
Experience building large-scale cloud data platforms and governed data products.
Proficiency with SQL, Python and modern data engineering practices incl. orchestration, testing, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

Recruit, hire, and develop the founding data engineering team.
Lead buildout of the enterprise data platform across ingestion, storage, transformation, and orchestration.
Partner with stakeholders to sequence the engineering backlog and balance value, speed, cost, risk.
Stay hands-on with pipeline design, build, and optimization.
Collaborate with governance peers to ensure durable, secure platform decisions.
Establish engineering disciplines enabling a lean team with AI-driven capacity.
