Job summary

Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is seeking a Senior IT Applications Engineer to own and advance the firm’s core business applications. This hybrid role (2 days per week) supports Charlotte and other offices and focuses on document management, case management, and legal workflow platforms.

You will lead architecture, governance, and integrations, oversee production stability, and mentor IT staff while collaborating with attorneys and administrative teams to drive technology-driven improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years supporting enterprise business applications; 5+ years in legal tech in a law firm environment.
• Proven experience leading application implementations, upgrades, migrations, and vendor coordination.
• Strong design and support of enterprise application integrations, APIs, web services, databases, SQL, and networking.
• Experience with legal tech platforms such as iManage Cloud, Aderant, Elite 3E, Litera, Intapp, Relativity, etc.
• Excellent communication and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical owner and SME for document management, case management, and business apps.
• Develop and maintain application roadmaps aligned with technology strategy and governance standards.
• Oversee configuration, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of firm applications; coordinate incident resolution.
• Design and maintain enterprise integrations, APIs, data services, and automation across systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes via automation and AI solutions, including Copilot integration.
• Lead implementations, upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives with vendors and IT leadership.
• Mentor Application Analysts and IT staff; develop technical docs and promote knowledge sharing.
• Partner with attorneys and departments to translate needs into technical solutions.
