Marathon Petroleum Corporation seeks an experienced Issues Management Senior Communications Specialist to protect the company’s reputation and license to operate. The role supports issues management, crisis communications readiness, and business development communications across a range of topics.

The position reports to the Senior Manager of Media Relations, Crisis Communications and Issues Management and may be based in Findlay, OH; San Antonio, TX; or Houston, TX, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience producing compelling communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a large or midsized company or public relations firm
• 3+ years of crisis communications experience in an industrial environment
• Experience leading communications initiatives from beginning to end
• Energy or manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with leaders to advance business objectives through compelling, fit-for-purpose communications and strategic counsel
• Create and deliver executive-level communications plans and materials for complex issues
• Develop and implement issues-management strategies and monitor emerging issues
• Respond to media inquiries and align corporate and local messaging
• Understand and implement crisis communications under high-stakes conditions with the Incident Command System
• Craft and manage communications content across articles, videos, presentations, social posts, emails and newsletters
• Partner with the broader Communications & Community Relations team to align corporate positioning
• Participate in emergency drills in the Joint Information Center within the Incident Command System
• Provide guidance to less experienced team members and contribute to team development
