Job summary

Swiftly is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional team that enables transit agencies to operate edge devices and cloud services. You will work on hardware, firmware, and software that connects devices to the cloud, configuring and processing telemetry data across the fleet.

You will collaborate with product and design, develop integrations with onboard hardware, and build scalable backend services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with embedded systems, IoT, or edge computing.
• Proficiency with Linux including imaging, system administration, containerization, networking, and security.
• Familiarity with multiple protocols (RS-232, CAN, HTTP/REST, MQTT) and edge-cloud interactions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and extend products solving customer problems.
• Collaborate with Product/Design/Engineering to validate needs and approaches.
• Develop integrations with onboard hardware devices (headsigh controllers, counters, fareboxes).
• Build cloud-native backend services for device configuration, telemetry, and fleet observability.
• Implement OTA updates and remote device management.
• Design hardware-in-the-loop testing strategies and monitoring.
• Maintain hardware lab or contribute to remote development/testing solutions.
• Deliver incremental value and demonstrate progress regularly.
• Communicate trade-offs and document architectural decisions.
• Mentor teammates through code reviews and pairing.
• Own code and product domain with retrospectives for continuous improvement.
