Job summary

Hickok Cole Architects in Richmond, VA is seeking an Interior Designer or Interior Architect with 7-10 years of experience to shape projects, grow client relationships, mentor talent, and drive studio growth. The role is hybrid—three days in the Richmond studio and two days remote.

You’ll lead design concepts across phases, manage space planning, FF&E, and documentation, while collaborating with clients and consultants. Advanced Revit and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• Based in or willing to relocate to Richmond, VA.
• 7–10 years of professional experience in interior design or architecture.
• Experience in multifamily residential, hospitality, workplace, and/or mixed-use environments.
• Strong design sensibility with demonstrated technical proficiency.
• Experience producing construction documents and coordinating consultant documentation.
• Knowledge of building, accessibility, and life safety codes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit and English with work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Develop and advance project design concepts from visioning through construction.
• Lead space planning, FF&E development, finish selections, and design documentation.
• Present design concepts to clients and project stakeholders.
• Serve as day-to-day client contact and collaborate with project teams.
• Participate in construction administration, including site visits and document review.
• Resolve design and technical challenges balancing quality, budget, and schedule.
• Mentor junior designers and contribute to a collaborative studio culture.
• Explore AI-enabled workflows to enhance design quality and efficiency.
