Job summary

The Western Union Company is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Integration Architect to lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable payment processor integrations across North America and the Caribbean. You will work with product, operations, and external financial institutions to accelerate partner onboarding and ensure reliable, compliant solutions.

You will architect AWS-based microservices in Java/Spring Boot, leverage REST and event-driven patterns with Kafka, and mentor engineering

Qualifications

8+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise integration solutions, APIs, and partner onboarding platforms.
5+ years of experience working with payment processors, financial institutions, banking integrations, remittance platforms, or payment networks.
“6+ years of experience developing Java applications using Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architectures.”
Experience leading end-to-end integration programs, including solution design, certification testing, implementation, and production support.

Responsibilities

Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of scalable payment processor integrations across North America (NA) and Latin America & Caribbean (LACA).
Define and implement enterprise integration patterns, APIs, and reference architectures for rapid partner onboarding.
Partner with business, product, operations, compliance, and external stakeholders to deliver integration solutions aligned with business objectives.
Serve as the technical lead for strategic payment processor, banking, and financial institution integrations.
Architect and develop AWS-based microservices using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and cloud-native design principles.
Design secure, resilient, and highly available integration solutions leveraging event-driven architectures and Kafka-based messaging platforms.
Build solutions supporting payment processing, transaction routing, settlement, reconciliation, and partner enablement.
Establish reusable integration frameworks, API standards, and engineering best practices that improve delivery speed and scalability.
Collaborate with external partners through solution design, certification, testing, implementation, and production rollout activities.
Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development productivity, testing, documentation, and operational excellence.
