Job summary

Western Union is seeking a Senior Architect, Software Engineering to lead end-to-end solution architecture for scalable products and platforms. You will partner with engineering, product, and business teams to translate requirements into robust, cloud-native designs and distributed systems across global teams.

Responsibilities include API-first, event-driven architectures, Java-based implementations, and driving engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; 10+ years software engineering experience or Master's with 8+ years.
• 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise software architectures.
• Experience building and deploying microservices-based applications at scale.
• Experience developing applications using Java and related enterprise technologies.
• Experience with web services, APIs, and modern distributed system design.
• Experience with software design patterns, OOD, data structures, and algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end solution architecture and technical design for new products, platforms, and business initiatives.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions with engineering and business stakeholders.
• Drive cloud-native architecture decisions to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Design and implement microservices-based platforms and distributed systems for enterprise-scale applications.
• Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to align technology with business objectives.
• Design API-first, event-driven architectures supporting real-time and batch payment flows.
• Provide technical leadership on architecture standards and development best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve business outcomes and customer experiences.
• Drive continuous improvement through performance optimization, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
• Champion collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence across the organization.
