Job summary

Argo Group in Chicago seeks an experienced attorney to provide legal counsel on property and casualty insurance matters, including regulatory compliance, filings, and reinsurance agreements. You will balance legal risk with business objectives in a regulated environment and collaborate across departments to support strategic initiatives.

The role requires a JD, active U.S. bar, and at least 5 years of insurance law experience, with strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as an attorney with a focus on insurance compliance and regulatory work.
• Active and in good standing with a bar in the United States.
• Strong foundation in insurance law matters.
• Ability to research insurance laws and regulations and interpret them.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel on insurance matters for admitted and surplus lines, including regulatory compliance, filings, and examinations.
• Advise on strategic initiatives, new products, and operational changes from a regulatory perspective.
• Review and negotiate intercompany reinsurance, ceded/assumed reinsurance, MGA, and related agreements.
• Conduct regulatory research and monitor developments across jurisdictions.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance and other departments to ensure consistent legal guidance.
