Job summary

American Family Insurance in Madison, WI seeks an experienced lawyer to lead outside counsel management and strategy for complex litigation. You will supervise outside counsel, perform coverage reviews, and draft reservations of rights where appropriate, reporting to the Senior Manager, Legal.

Relocation support is offered and internal candidates are encouraged to apply. The role involves travel up to 50% and a compensation range of $113,000.00–$194,000.00 with salary as pay type.

Qualifications

• Must have litigation experience and be admitted to the bar in the practicing state.
• Experience drafting civil pleadings, motions, discovery, and taking depositions.
• Strong understanding of Professional Responsibility rules in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Solid knowledge of tort, contract, and insurance law.

Responsibilities

• Oversee caseload to achieve favorable outcomes with outside counsel.
• Hold outside counsel accountable to company requirements.
• Develop and drive litigation strategy across the file lifecycle.
• Conduct early reserve analyses and adjust as needed with authority.
• Ensure best practices in litigation, including motions and trial prep.
• Regularly report and present files to senior leadership.
