Job summary

The State of Vermont is seeking an Insurance Examiner III to lead examinations and ongoing oversight of Vermont-domiciled captive insurance companies. You will evaluate governance, strategy, business plans, IT systems, and financial reporting to ensure regulatory compliance and policyholder protection.

The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills and involves travel for examinations and surveillance across a portfolio of entities.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or an equally relevant field.
• Bachelor's degree and four or more years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including one year in financial accounting for insurance enterprises.
• Eighteen months of experience as an Insurance Examiner II with the State of Vermont.
• Employees must obtain CPA or AFE designation within two years of hire or promotion (not to exceed 4 years).

Responsibilities

• Examinations and ongoing oversight of Vermont-domiciled captive insurance companies.
• Evaluate governance, strategy, business plans, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct research, participate on task forces, and handle special projects.
• Perform annual and quarterly surveillance for a portfolio of companies.
