Job summary

State of Iowa seeks an Insurance Examiner 2 to join the financial examinations team. The role provides professional oversight through auditing of financial records to assess risk and ensure compliance with insurance laws and regulations.

The candidate should have foundational insurance knowledge and may advance to complex examinations. Responsibilities include auditing non-traditional risk entities, training staff, and supporting management on NAIC working groups.

Qualifications

• For option (1): Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in insurance, accounting, actuarial science, risk management, finance, or business, plus two years of full-time work in insurance examination, financial analysis, QA, ERM, or corporate governance.
• For option (2): Four years of education/experience with specified coursework equaling one year, plus two years of graduate-level education/experience with specified coursework equaling one year.
• For option (3): Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch including one year as Insurance Examiner 1.

Responsibilities

• Perform auditing assignments in examining financial and related business records to assess risk and compliance with insurance laws.
• Provide professional oversight of entities engaged in the business of insurance.
• Assist in the audit of non-traditional risk bearing entities; train and advise staff; perform related work.
• Support management on NAIC working groups.
