Job summary

General Atomics is seeking an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer to support the DIII-D program in San Diego, CA. This role oversees design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of I&C systems across plant operations, ensuring reliable automation, process control, and safety compliance.

You will work under supervision with senior engineers, handling lab experiments, PCB designs, and documentation while collaborating with scientists and business development on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree is plus.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts in an industrial setting.
• Experience with PLC/SCADA, control systems, and electronics repair/desi g n.
• Knowledge of documentation and reporting for design reviews and work orders.

Responsibilities

• Comply with safety standards (LOTO, confined space).
• Manage plant instrumentation (PLCs, SCADA, industrial electronics).
• Deploy, troubleshoot sensors, DAQ devices, and signal conditioning systems.
• Assist in improving SCADA reliability, efficiency, and automation.
• Support data collection and interpretation for experiments.
• Design or modify analog/digital circuits to meet program needs.
• Read schematics and update PCB designs with new components.
• Coordinate PCB fabrication and assembly; work with vendors.
