Job summary

General Atomics is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager for the Real-Time Controls and Instrumentation team in San Diego. The role focuses on planning, leading, and delivering complex control systems and instrumentation for HEL and aerospace applications.

You will oversee architecture, mentorship, and cross-disciplinary collaboration within a fast-paced R&D environment. You should have 9+ years in engineering, strong LabVIEW and cRIO experience, and the ability to navigate DoD clearance

Qualifications

• Requires advanced engineering degree and 9+ years of engineering experience.
• Strong experience with National Instruments LabVIEW and cRIO systems including LabVIEW Real-Time and FPGA.
• Ability to architect controls and software solutions at the system level.
• Proven system-level troubleshooting across hardware, software, and interfaces.
• Ability to read and understand C#/C++ or similar languages.
• Excellent communication and mentorship capabilities across teams.
• Desirable experience in C# and OO development.
• Willingness to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance.
• Travel up to 25% may be required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and deliver engineering programs from inception to completion.
• Guide development, integration, and test of controls and instrumentation systems.
• Provide architectural leadership for multi-component control systems.
• Lead root-cause investigations across disciplines.
• Mentor engineers and support problem decomposition and design decisions.
• Contribute hands-on LabVIEW/cRIO work when needed.
• Communicate status, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
• Represent GA-EMS on assigned programs.
