Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Training Coordinator to supervise and coordinate daily operations of training at the institution, including mandatory and elective courses, update lesson plans, and ensure compliance with ACA standards and laws.

The role includes certification requirements, supporting new hires, and developing the annual training plan, with collaboration across security and training academy staff.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Within 1 year of entry into position, must be certified by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Center, complete with the basic supervisory courses, acquire CDL, and complete all required T4T courses.
• Preferred teaching and training experience: a bachelor's degree plus one (1) year of teaching/training experience; an associate degree plus two (2) years of teaching/training experience; a high school diploma plus three (3) years of teaching/training experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates daily operations/functions of training at the institution.
• Instruct mandatory, elective and special training courses.
• Researches, develops, updates lesson plans, training aids, manuals, tests, and evaluation instruments to comply with agency policies, ACA standards, and state/federal laws.
• Monitors employee's CLEE certification cycle and training status.
• Assists new hires with new employee computer-based training, institutional orientation, and basic training enrollment.
• Develops/implements institution's annual training plan.
• Assists training academy staff with range/on-the-job training, scenarios, and other specialized classes.
• Meets with training academy captain on a quarterly basis.
• Ex officio member of the institution's training advisory council for recommendations regarding special training needs.
