Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a training supervisor to coordinate daily training operations, instruct mandatory and elective courses, and develop curricula aligned with agency policies and laws. The role also covers tracking certifications and onboarding new staff.

Ideal candidates will have supervisory experience, a background in training design, and a commitment to compliance. A CDL and T4T completion within a year are required; PBS and related credentials may be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; one year supervisory experience.
• Within 1 year of entry, certification by SCDOC Training Center, basic supervisory courses, CDL, and all required T4T courses.
• Preferred: bachelor's degree plus one year teaching/training experience; or associate degree plus two years; or high school diploma plus three years of teaching/training experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates daily operations/functions of training at the institution.
• Instruct mandatory, elective and special training courses.
• Researches, develops, updates lesson plans, training aids, manuals, tests, and evaluation instruments to comply with agency policies, ACA standards, and state/federal laws.
• Monitor employee's CLEE certification cycle and training status.
• Assists new hires with new employee computer-based training, institutional orientation, and basic training enrollment.
• Develops/implements institution's annual training plan.
• Assist institutional security staff as needed.
• Assists training academy staff with range/on-the-job training, scenarios, and other specialized classes.
• Meets with training academy captain on a quarterly basis.
• Any and all other task as assigned by Institutional warden and training academy.
