Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder for a remote role. You will assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services, ensure DRG accuracy, and maintain coding quality in a hospital setting.

The role requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials and 3+ years of acute care inpatient coding, with experience in Level 2 trauma centers and various encoder/EMR systems. Training provided; weekend/shift flexibility may apply.

Qualifications

• AHIMA/AAPC credentialing (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CPC-H) maintained annually
• 3+ years Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience
• 2+ years Level 2 trauma center and/or teaching hospital experience
• 2+ years ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screening and background check

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and DRG impact
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding
• Adhere to AAPC/AHIMA ethical coding standards
• Maintain coding knowledge per QM Manager and Director of Coding/Quality Management
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing
• Work to meet coding quality and productivity standards at Optum360
