Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks a subject matter expert in underwriting practices to support the LOB Practices Manager and VP in developing guidelines, authority frameworks, and training content. You will conduct research on coverages, trends, and exposures to help guideline recommendations and portfolio performance.

You will handle referrals within authority, assist with vendor tools, and contribute to QA and large loss reviews, while collaborating with regional teams to strengthen underwriting

Qualifications

• Underwriting expertise and knowledge of LOB-specific coverages, exposures, and underwriting guidelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail, using data, sound judgment, and diverse perspectives.
• Builds productive relationships with internal and external partners while managing multiple priorities and work flows.

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and maintain underwriting guidelines. Research coverage questions and draft guideline updates.
• Support the authority delegation framework; monitor utilization and provide analysis for adjustments.
• Create LOB-specific training curricula and technical content with the enablement team.
• Receive and handle underwriting referrals, providing guidance on complex accounts within authority.
