Job summary

CARET is seeking a seasoned Systems Engineer to support and optimize IT infrastructure across servers, databases, APIs, and networks in the United States. You will build and maintain virtualized environments with Hyper‑V/VMware, manage AD/AAD, and drive automation using PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.

You will join an Agile team, own backup and monitoring tasks, and participate in on‑call rotations, delivering infrastructure improvements and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure management.
• Strong understanding of IT components: servers, databases, APIs, networking, firewalls, load balancers, SAN.
• Proficiency in Windows Server administration, patching and security hardening.
• Hands-on virtualization with Hyper-V and VMware.
• Experience with Active Directory and Azure AD.
• Experience with Ansible or Terraform for IaC.
• PowerShell scripting and ability to read/write scripts.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and incident response.
• Experience with GitHub or Azure DevOps for IaC.
• Comfortable in Agile/SCRUM environments and on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Support and document IT infrastructure systems, ensuring stability and performance.
• Comprehend and manage system architecture involving servers, databases, APIs, load balancers, firewalls, networking, and SAN.
• Build, configure, and maintain virtualized environments using Hyper-V and VMware.
• Administer Windows Server environments including patching, performance tuning, and security hardening.
• Manage Active Directory (on-prem and Azure AD) and user provisioning tasks.
• Design, implement, and own automation scripts using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code tools like Ansible or Terraform.
• Oversee backup processes at various levels—VM snapshots, OS-level, and SAN-level.
• Monitor system health and performance using appropriate logging and monitoring tools; respond to incidents and triage effectively.
• Use code management repositories (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps) for infrastructure configuration and deployment.
• Contribute to SCRUM or Agile processes by delivering infrastructure-related tasks and improvements.
• Lead projects from design to completion with minimal supervision and guide junior engineers through mentorship and knowledge-sharing.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide timely resolution to critical infrastructure issues.
