The Senior Infrastructure Engineer delivers network and systems solutions for higher education institutions, focusing on network and system infrastructure development, deployment and support. The role emphasizes performance, security and scalability across managed services and requires close collaboration with institutional leaders, staff and vendors to maintain stable, secure and high‑performing technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Architect, configure and deploy network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers) such as Cisco, Meraki and Palo Alto.
• Implement network segmentation, VLANs and high‑performance routing to support secure remote access solutions (VPN, SD‑WAN).< /li>
• Build and maintain virtualized environments using VMware, Hyper‑V and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).< /li>
• Conduct system updates, patching and performance tuning for Windows and Linux servers to ensure reliability, compliance and security.
• Utilize monitoring tools (Connectwise, SolarWinds, Nagios, Whatsup Gold, Zabbix) to oversee network health, optimize bandwidth and detect anomalies.
• Leverage data analytics to evaluate performance metrics, identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions that enhance system uptime and user experience.
• Manage firewall policies, intrusion prevention systems, web filtering and ensure compliance with FERPA, GLBA and SOC II standards.
• Perform vulnerability scans, security audits and incident response forensics to quickly identify, contain and remediate threats.
• Design and implement storage solutions, disaster recovery plans and backup schedules with data integrity verification and fail‑over strategies.
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation for all network and system configurations, SOPs and security practices.
• Support institutional leadership in compliance initiatives, risk reduction, incident response coordination and security best‑practice implementation.
• Occasional client‑site travel as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Provide leadership, mentorship and operational direction to technical staff and service delivery resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

• 5+ years of senior infrastructure engineering experience with a hand‑on focus on network and systems administration.
• Experience in a managed services environment and in higher education.
