Job summary

Astronomer is seeking Senior/Staff Software Engineers for the Infrastructure team to own the architecture of the systems that stand up, configure, and manage the underlying Airflow-based platform.

You will design and build control-plane services and APIs, drive security, observability, and reliability across multi-tenant cloud and private-cloud deployments, and mentor engineers while setting technical direction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or systems engineering, with ownership of production-scale systems.
• Experience building and operating Kubernetes-based infrastructure, including custom Operators/CRDs and Helm deployments.
• Experience designing REST or gRPC APIs that power UI or programmatic integrations, with versioning considerations.
• Strong networking, distributed systems, reliability engineering, and security best practices.
• Proficiency in Go and/or TypeScript, or ability to rapidly learn new languages.
• Experience designing observability and distributed tracing for multi-layer systems.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture of systems that stand up, scale, and manage infrastructure Airflow runs on, end-to-end.
• Design and evolve APIs (REST/gRPC) for lifecycle management and integrations.
• Own networking and security posture, including authentication, authorization, and secure communication, CVE remediation, and image hardening.
• Architect observability with metrics, logs, and traces across services and networks.
• Participate in on-call rotation, diagnose incidents, and drive post-mortems and sprint remediation.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards in design, code reviews, and testing.
