Job summary

Early Warning Services LLC is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure Automation in the Chicago area. The role focuses on designing, building, and improving infrastructure-as-code capabilities across cloud and on-prem environments, with Terraform, Ansible, and policy‑as‑code at the core.

You will collaborate with Cloud, Platform, Security, and CI/CD teams to enable secure, reliable infrastructure changes, drive module development, and ensure scalable, auditable deployments.

Qualifications

• In-depth software engineering and systems design experience in infrastructure automation.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into maintainable, testable solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication, architecture records, and standards.
• Leading complex technical work with cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience with policy-as-code and security/compliance controls in infra.

Responsibilities

• Apply software engineering discipline to infrastructure automation with modular, tested tooling.
• Design and evolve infrastructure-as-code reference architectures and guardrails.
• Drive Terraform adoption across cloud and on-prem environments; develop modules.
• Develop and test Terraform modules with security, observability, and IAM controls.
• Develop Ansible capabilities, including roles, collections, and testing.
• Implement policy-as-code and automate evidence collection for compliance.
• Lead internal developer platform efforts and provide mentorship.
