Job summary

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is seeking an Assistant Director of Industrial Hygiene to lead cross-facility programs and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving safe, healthy operations.

Reporting to the Vice President of Safety and Health, this role oversees exposure assessments, hazard control, training, and contractor oversight, shaping emergency preparedness and regulatory inspections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health, safety management, or related compliance programs.
• Minimum 4 years of supervisory, management, or program leadership experience overseeing industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health, or safety programs.
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, practices, exposure assessment methods, and occupational health standards.
• Experience with workplace exposure assessments, monitoring techniques, and evaluation of occupational health risks.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and related occupational safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee industrial hygiene, occupational health, and environmental health programs across TBTA facilities to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with policies and standards.
• Partner with facility leadership and safety teams to integrate program requirements into daily operations and drive continuous improvement.
• Direct and oversee workplace exposure assessments, hazard evaluations, air/noise/indoor air quality monitoring, and other IH activities to mitigate risks.
• Develop and evaluate control strategies, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE requirements.
• Lead regulatory compliance activities, inspections, audits, investigations, and reporting with OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and others.
• Manage IH employees, consultants, contractors, and vendors; provide input to procurement and contracts.
• Develop and deliver IH and occupational health training programs for employees and supervisors.
• Support emergency preparedness, incident investigations, and business continuity related to IH and environmental health incidents.
• Prepare executive reports and metrics; represent Safety and Health in meetings with stakeholders and regulators.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or closely related field
