Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Senior Director, Safety to direct and oversee strategic SH&E programs for over 70,000 employees across rail, subway, bus, and bridge & tunnel systems. The role reports to the Deputy Chief, Safety Officer and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while driving a positive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management, Public Administration/Policy, Public Health, or a related degree; or equivalent experience.
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in safety, with at least 5 years in managerial roles in a large organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety, health and environment programs for MTA HQ and 4,000 employees.
• Oversee risk management, audits, inspections, and investigations across all agencies.
• Promote safety culture and training, and drive ISO-aligned safety certifications.
• Coordinate with unions, regulators, and internal stakeholders for safety policy implementation.
• Direct staff and mentor personnel; manage performance and disciplinary matters.
