Job summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our Industrial team in Des Moines, IA. This role focuses on preconstruction cost control, estimating accuracy, and coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers.

Ideal candidates will have extensive industrial experience, including power, manufacturing, and heavy industrial sectors. Salary is competitive with strong benefits and opportunities for leadership on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or similar
• Ten years of estimating responsibility required; experience with formal presentations and supervising staff is helpful
• Excellent estimating skills and ability to identify items for complete systems
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specs, schedules

Responsibilities

• Review estimates for accuracy, detail, and expectations
• Develop scope of work, labor, and equipment costs from plans
• Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing via self-perform or unit price estimating
• Verify local market conditions with trades, suppliers, and government offices
• Analyze manpower and equipment requirements for self-perform operations
• Visit project sites to capture scope not in documents
• Prepare bid analysis and unit price data from subcontractors
• Enter estimate data in WinEst with breakdowns and alternates
• Coordinate with operations on systems and safety planning
• Use BIM/LEAN concepts to improve estimates and avoid gaps
• Manage risk and escalate when needed
• Support post-bid buyouts and subcontractor coordination
• Lead meet-and-greet presentations with subcontractors and suppliers
