Job summary

Ryder seeks a seasoned Continuous Improvement Engineer to apply Lean methods, data-driven analysis, and automation to warehousing, transportation, and manufacturing operations in Kentucky. You will lead Kaizen events, map processes, and drive value across safety, quality, and delivery metrics.

Responsibilities include developing and managing transformation plans, coaching teams, and sustaining improvements while collaborating with operations and customers. Strong SQL/PowerBI skills preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with 5+ years in warehousing, transportation, or manufacturing; or a Master’s with 3+ years; MBA requires engineering undergrad.
  • 5+ years related experience in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
  • Advanced Excel/PowerPoint/Access; data visualization (PowerBI/Tableau) and SQL/DAX skills preferred.
  • Experience with Leader Standard Work, Visual Management, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S is required or beginner level.

Job description

  • Support Ryder's Continuous Improvement culture across the operation
  • Apply continuous improvement methods to new and existing operations
  • Identify and drive operational change through data-driven continuous improvement, engineering, and automation efforts
  • Deliver improved safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development performance
  • Collect data, perform statistical analysis, and map/document processes
  • Identify process gaps and recommend/implement process improvements
  • Develop and manage continuous improvement plans and transformation plan execution
  • Manage and complete continuous improvement and steady-state engineering projects
  • Assess continuous improvement initiatives and recommend future activities
  • Support go-live and steady-state certifications
  • Identify and support automation projects
  • Interact regularly with operations management and customers
  • Develop competency in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coach employees in continuous improvement, quality assurance, and Lean principles
  • Apply engineering methods including product slotting, labor standards/time studies, layouts, flow optimization, data profiling/analysis, and resource modeling
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events, including A3 charter creation, pre-work, results delivery, and sustainment follow-up
  • Coach process owners on Lean methods and operational excellence
  • Report data and actions against site objectives
  • Make inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations
  • Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the QMS
  • Implement and monitor a standardized corrective action system
  • Support regulatory compliance and certification requirements
  • Perform Quality Assurance functions for start-ups or expansions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five (5) years or more related work experience in the Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing industry; or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management and three (3) years related experience; if MBA, undergraduate degree in Engineering
  • Five years or more related work experience in the Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing industry
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills, with emphasis on Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio — Expert
  • Data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.) and database programming (SQL, DAX, etc.) — Intermediate, preferred
  • Functional experience developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S/Workplace Organization — Beginner, required
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions, including slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, and metrics — Intermediate, required
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types, warehouse layout/design, and Lean methods — Intermediate, preferred
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation, including powered industrial truck applications, racking/storage solutions, packaging equipment, conveyor and sortation equipment, and AS/RS — Intermediate, preferred
  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks and transportation equipment/types — Intermediate, preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma, cPMP, and ISO/QMS — preferred
  • American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification — preferred
