Job summary

GrayMatter is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex industrial automation solutions. This role requires expertise across SCADA, HMI, PLC, and MES systems to optimize client operations and deliver successful project outcomes.

The Senior Engineer will mentor engineers, collaborate with customers, project teams, and partners, and drive continuous improvement while traveling ~30% for onsite engagements and pilots.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or an associate degree with four additional years of relevant experience.
• 7–10 years of relevant industrial automation engineering experience beyond degree requirements.
• Advanced experience designing, programming, configuring, and troubleshooting SCADA, HMI, PLC, and/or MES systems.
• Experience with GE iFIX, Historian, or comparable industrial automation technologies.
• Strong expertise in system architecture, industrial software/hardware integration, networking, and TCP/IP configurations.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex engineering projects and meet technical & project timelines.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills; able to manage multiple priorities and build customer relationships.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineers; collaborate across teams and deliver customer-focused solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design, system architecture, development, and implementation of complex industrial automation solutions while independently managing engineering assignments.
• Design, program, configure, test, document, and troubleshoot industrial software and hardware systems to meet customer requirements and standards.
• Deliver high-quality engineering services within project scopes, budgets, and timelines while ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to assess needs and develop solutions that improve performance and efficiency.
• Lead project activities including design reviews, testing, pilots, commissioning, troubleshooting, and demonstrations.
• Coordinate resources, monitor deliverables, manage risks, and address scope changes with Project Managers and Leads.
• Provide technical support, training, and guidance onsite and remotely; mentor junior engineers.
