Job summary

Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC) is seeking a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its impact litigation team in Hawaii. The role focuses on complex cases advancing Native Hawaiian rights, often involving appellate practice.

The candidate will lead case strategy, manage discovery, coordinate witnesses, and represent NHLC in trials and on appeal, while mentoring junior attorneys and engaging with Native Hawaiian communities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of litigation experience required.
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited American law school.
• Active Hawaii license or eligibility for limited admission with full admission within two years.
• Experience handling first chair responsibilities in litigation; trial and appellate experience preferred.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, and Native Hawaiian rights issues.
• Ability to work in a diverse team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage assigned cases from assessment through trial and appeal.
• Lead discovery, identify witnesses, and coordinate depositions.
• Draft, edit and finalize pleadings, briefs and written advocacy.
• Prepare for trials and oral arguments on appeal.
• Lead settlement discussions and negotiate on behalf of NHLC.
• Build and maintain relationships with NHLC clients, partners and communities.
