Job summary

Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC) seeks a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its impact litigation team in Hawai‘i. You will lead complex cases advancing Native Hawaiian rights, oversee discovery, and prepare for trials and appeals.

The role emphasizes advocacy, client collaboration, and leadership across NHLC’s mission-driven docket. The candidate will have 8+ years of litigation experience, a J.D., and an active Hawai‘i license or a plan to obtain full admission within two years.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney in litigation.
• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited American law school.
• Active Hawaii license or ability to obtain limited admission and full admission within two years.
• Experience handling first chair in litigation; trial and appellate experience preferred.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws, and Native Hawaiian law context.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage assigned cases, including strategy and oversight.
• Lead discovery, witness preparation, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Draft pleadings and briefs; represent NHLC at trials and on appeal.
• Engage in settlement discussions and client relationships; communicate with leadership.
