Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC) in Hawaii seeks a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its impact litigation team. The attorney will lead high-stakes cases advancing Native Hawaiian rights, including environmental, water rights, and cultural protection matters.

The role requires 8+ years in litigation, a JD, and Hawaii bar admission, with extensive trial and appellate experience. A flexible hybrid work policy and strong collaboration with leadership are offered.

Qualificações

• 8+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney in litigation required.
• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited American school of law
• Active license to practice law in the State of Hawaii and a member in good standing with the Hawaii State Bar Association.
• If not licensed in Hawaii, applicant will need to successfully apply for limited admission immediately and secure full admission within the first two years of employment.
• Experience handling first chair responsibility in litigation. Trial experience, and appellate experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of or ability and interest to quickly learn: state and federal laws, trial techniques, Native Hawaiian communities, indigenous law, administration of NHLC matters, federal/state court proceedings, negotiation, risk management, and related dynamics.

Responsabilidades

• Develop and manage assigned cases, including case assessment, interviews, document review and due diligence.
• Formulate litigation strategy and oversee all case activities.
• Lead discovery, identify witnesses, and manage depositions.
• Research, draft, edit, and finalize written advocacy; prepare for trials and appellate argument.
• Lead litigation settlement discussions on the client’s behalf.
• Build positive client relationships and communicate with NHLC leadership.
