Job description

This position will support our Airport Engineering Support Team. The candidate will provide design, review, and update support to advisory circular engineering briefs and other technical documentation. This position is mostly remote and supports a remote team but will require regular visits to the customer site in Washington, D.C.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Support writing, editing, and publishing technical documentation including related artifacts required for the FAA's records archive.
  • Review and edit documents to ensure compliance with applicable technical standards.
  • Administrative and tracking support for web-based applications.
  • Coordination and collaboration with various internal and external Airports personnel.
  • Organize materials and complete writing projects according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Use software tools such as Microsoft Office (MS) suite and SpecsIntact to edit, review, format, and publish nationally-distributed FAA publication products and materials created and maintained by AAS-100, or as directed by AAS-100, including FAA Orders, Advisory Circulars (ACs), executive memoranda, design and procedural specifications, white papers, on-line help files and tutorials, newsletters, web content, field training curriculum, and industry-wide magazine articles.
  • Create and/or maintain standard templates for publications listed above.
  • Select and utilize photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate AAS-100 published material.
  • Review pre-published documents for correctness, compliance with industry accepted standards, Federal government legislative and regulatory requirements, and user standards specified in technical orders and style guides.
  • Maintain document versioning/tracking requirements for AAS-100 publications.
  • Support maintenance updates of AAS-100 owned/managed regulatory guidance (80+ ACs.)
  • Maintain the FAA's repository of ACs and associated issues.
  • Maintain records and files of completed work, including revisions.
  • Maintain the FAA's KSN (SharePoint) site and MSAG's AES Teams site to ensure files are organized, standardized, and retained according to requirements.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of deliverables prior to delivery – review for consistency and compliance with style guides and FAA requirements.
  • Assist with the creation of educational and training videos and ensure compliance with FAA's branding, style guidelines, and security requirements.
  • Utilize various tools (including but not limited to) MS Office applications, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator) to remediate complex documents in various formats (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for 508 compliance and accessibility.
  • Utilize Adobe Acrobat to create high-quality PDF conversions and 508-compliant tagging.
  • Assist with development of documents to track and/or showcase team's progress and accomplishments and foster growth, such as program management reviews, proposals, and data visualizations.
  • Document and track technical and non-technical requirements for projects to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Participate in work order request assessments and make recommendations on distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to lead project work as well as contribute as a part of a larger team.
  • Well-versed in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)
  • Experience using virtual work tools, such as Teams, SharePoint recommended.
  • Must be eligible to achieve Public Trust clearance.

Education and Experience:
  • A four-year degree in education, English, journalism, history, political science, arts, or equivalent degrees are required. Graphic design and similar degrees are allowable.
