Job summary

ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking a Technical Writer, Level 1, to join the FAA NAS support team in Oklahoma City, OK. This full-time on-site role at MMAC focuses on developing manuals, directives, specifications, and user guides for the ASR-11 radar program.

The candidate should have strong English, proven technical writing/editing experience, ability to work with scientists and engineers, and comfort in a fast-paced government contractor environment.

ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking a Technical Writer, Level 1, to join our Airport Surveillance Radar Model 11 (ASR-11) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City, OK. This is a full-time on-site position at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC).


The ASR-11, also known as the Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR), is a joint FAA/Department of Defense program that deploys advanced digital radar systems to terminal air traffic control sites. It detects aircraft position and weather conditions, replacing older analog systems to improve reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and provides enhanced six-level weather data.


All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.


  • Be a US Citizen.
  • Have resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport.

Relocation Requirement


Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Oklahoma City, OK.


Education & Experience Requirement


All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.


  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in this specific technical area that is pertinent to the support of the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject matter experts, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications.
  • Direct experience performing technical writing or editing is desired.
  • Two (2) years of experience is required.
  • NAS experience is preferred.

Required Skills


  • Strong proficiency in:
    • English language and grammar.
    • Describing information in simple, clear language.
    • Analytical/organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical documentation development and maintenance. This includes the ability to organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Visio, Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently, as well as a team, in a fast-paced environment.
    • Navigate complex workflows; research and problem solve; willingness to learn/try new things.
    • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with computer scientists, engineers, project personnel and technical leads, as well as varying levels of management and customers.

Essential Daily Job Duties


  • Develop, write, and edit technical materials including manuals, directives, specifications, and user guides.
  • Prepare documentation for the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Analyze engineering information and present it in clear, structured formats tailored to the intended audience.
  • Ensure all updates are electronically configuration‑managed and delivered through approved publication channels.
  • Collect, research, and document engineering data to support technical content development.
  • Create or modify diagrams and visuals, ensuring compliance with DOT Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Identify and analyze complex technical issues, recommending solutions and improving documentation processes.
  • Track, analyze, and maintain documentation quality using advanced tools, templates, and automated techniques
  • Full-time position with a standard work schedule.
