Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Senior Computational Materials Scientist to advance physics-based modeling and first-principles simulations for materials used in fusion energy systems. You will collaborate with design and analysis engineers to prioritize experiments and reduce uncertainty in material behavior under extreme conditions.

The role requires deep knowledge of ICME methods, atomistic to continuum scales, and experience building codes for materials property predictions.

Qualifications

• Background in computational materials simulation methods and materials science or physical chemistry.
• 7+ years experience in experimental or computational materials science.
• Experience using computational materials science tools and ICME to answer scientific questions across length scales.
• Implementation and/or authorship of codes for calculation and analyses of material properties and microstructures.

Responsabilités

• Use and build computational toolsets to predict material properties in extreme environments with uncertainty bounds.
• Identify microstructural features impacting performance in extreme environments.
• Inform design of experiments for materials in extreme environments.
• Develop material design curves for tokamak applications with statistically significant properties.
• Identify gaps in knowledge and experimental capability for simulation or models.
• Assist in benchmarking and metrics for material property variability.
• Collaborate to create workflows for data capture, storage, visualization, and analysis.
• Support writing materials standard specifications.
• Stay current with evolving modeling techniques.
