Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Staff Scientist – Plasma Material Interaction to connect plasma physics, materials science, and nuclear engineering. You will develop predictive models, benchmark against experimental data, and help design plasma-facing components for ARC and SPARC.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in plasma physics, materials science, nuclear engineering, or related field.
• Experience with plasma material interactions in magnetically confined plasmas.

Responsibilities

• Build computational workflows to predict PFC material degradation under plasma loading conditions and under neutron irradiation.
• Support ARC design team by running predictive models for PFC material lifetime estimates and design implications.
• Conduct experimental tests of candidate ARC materials at test facilities worldwide.
