Job description

For the right candidate, this position offers the opportunity for significant professional growth and the potential to collaborate with local and national teams. In this role, your responsibilities will include developing instrumentation and controls designs (specifications, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs), conducting control system startups for industrial and municipal projects, and collaborating with client development teams to support proposal development. We seek candidates with a proven track record in designing, testing, and startup of industrial control systems for municipal water/wastewater work. The role requires the ability to integrate and apply Brown and Caldwell's service offerings to help clients solve their most challenging issues.

Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as an I&C Lead Engineer in stand-alone and multi-disciplinary design projects.
  2. Develop P&IDs, wiring schematics, and control system architecture documents for industrial automation projects.
  3. Develop control strategies for automation controls.
  4. Manage discipline aspects of PLC and HMI automation projects, including modification, development, testing, and startup of automation programming.
  5. Review submittals from contractors, vendors, and system integrators, acting as the owner's advisor.
  6. Perform discipline engineering services during construction, including submittal review, RFI responses, and change order management.
  7. Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in both local and remote environments.
  8. Produce accurate reports, documents, and technical memorandums.
  9. Participate in value engineering, QA/QC, and review of sub-consultant work.
  10. Mentor local and remote staff within the Electrical and Process Automation Services group.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  1. B.S. in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  2. PE license preferred.
  3. 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and control design for municipal or industrial water/wastewater projects, or relevant private-sector industries.
  4. Experience in design, testing, and startup of industrial process automation systems.
  5. Knowledge of industrial process control networking and Fieldbus technologies.
  6. Experience with industrial control cybersecurity is a plus.
  7. Proficiency with Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, or Bentley P&ID software.
  8. Understanding of electrical safety standards, NFPA 70E.
  9. Strong communication skills.
  10. Self-starter, results-oriented, capable of working under pressure.
  11. Willingness to travel approximately 10%.
  12. Effective in client and contractor interactions.
