Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer, Hydrogen Safety Architecture in Berkeley to own safety design for hydrogen systems in our multi-day energy storage platform. You will bridge chemical dynamics with mechanical engineering, guiding venting, mitigation, and compliance while leading cross-functional teams.

You will manage hazards analyses, system P&IDs, and dialogue with regulators to secure certifications, shaping the safety framework for scalable grid storage solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
• 8+ years in industry with 3+ years of hydrogen-safety commercialization experience.
• Knowledge of NFPA 2, NFPA 69, IEC 60079, UL9540, UL1973 or equivalent codes.
• Ability to manage complex mechanical architectures and P&ID control.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration with regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

• Author, own, and sign off on Hazardous Zone Analyses (HZA) for multi-megawatt battery installations.
• Architect and design mechanical systems for hydrogen venting, dilution, and leak mitigation with safety compliance.
• Oversee fluids subsystems design to optimize cross-functional performance and reduce risks.
• Own and manage system P&IDs from concept to production-ready docs.
• Lead analyses (CFD/dispersion) and validation for safety and performance.
• Interface with compliance engineers, AHJs, and regulators to secure certifications.
• Define System Theory and Operations for Controls and Electrical implementation.
