Job summary

Form Energy in Berkeley is seeking a hands-on Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design of subsystems within our hydrogen management system for our iron-air battery technology. You will build prototypes, engage vendors, and work toward high-volume manufacturing and safety certification.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 8+ years in mechanical design of equipment
• Experience with liquids or gas handling systems
• Strong understanding of first-principles fluids modeling
• Experience optimizing designs for manufacturing and cost-down

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, prototype, and test the hydrogen management system to meet critical performance requirements
• Build and maintain hydrogen flow system analytical models that inform design architecture decisions
• Fabricate and test first-of-a-kind prototypes to validate system design choices
• Design for high-volume manufacturing and reduce product cost
• Lead vendor engagements and transition designs to high-volume production
• Collaborate with Electrical and Controls teams to optimize actuator and sensor integration
• Mentor junior engineers and elevate mechanical engineering practices
• Champion safety, especially in development of new laboratory processes
