Job summary

Dewberry seeks an experienced Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineer to join its Resilience Solutions Group in Fairfax, VA. The role focuses on advancing hydraulics, flood risk analysis, and water resources planning for federal, state, and local clients.

Collaborate with engineers, scientists, planners and programmers to develop advanced workflows, mentor staff, and advance probabilistic and risk-informed modeling approaches in a cloud-enabled environment.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience calibrating and applying large-scale watershed and riverine hydraulic models.
• Proficiency with HEC-RAS and SWMM.
• Experience with floodplain mapping, FEMA studies, and regulatory flood risk assessments.
• Experience with GIS, including ArcGIS Pro.

Responsibilities

• Leverage expertise in hydraulic engineering and river modeling to lead or support technical needs of diverse projects across municipal, state, and federal markets.
• Lead or contribute to development of innovative hydraulic and flood risk analysis approaches.
• Conduct and oversee one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling of riverine systems and floodplains.
• Evaluate river hydraulics, sediment transport, channel stability, and floodplain dynamics.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for integrated project delivery.
• Develop technical reports and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in hydraulic modeling and risk assessment.
• Lead research and validation of next-generation hydraulic analysis methodologies.
• Design computational workflows leveraging cloud computing and large-scale model execution.
