Job summary

The HVAC Technician II role at City of Charlotte's Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) performs skilled maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related systems across CATS facilities. Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, this position ensures safe, reliable operation and supports complex diagnostics and repair tasks.

This role contributes to the transition plan as CATS moves toward the Metropolitan Public Transit Authority (MPTA).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 5 years in HVAC maintenance or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining rooftop units, air handlers, and related equipment.
• Ability to diagnose complex HVAC problems including electrical and control issues.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and control diagrams.
• Commitment to safety procedures and standard trade practices.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain rooftop units, air handlers, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve HVAC performance issues including electrical and control problems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and BAS monitoring.
• Respond to service calls and coordinate with facilities staff.
• Document work orders and ensure proper test results.
