Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an HVAC technician to perform skilled craftsman level HVAC/R duties across campus, including maintenance, repairs, and preventive tasks. The role requires EPA Universal Certification and involves on-call weekend rotations and disaster support.

You will work under the shop foreman, coordinate with Energy Management, and ensure strict adherence to EPA guidelines while servicing chillers, DX units, cooling towers, and related equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and three years trade experience directly related to the area of employment.
• EPA-approved freon recovery certification may be required.
• Commercial driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to perform a range of physical tasks and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain work area and job site in clean and orderly manner.
• Supervise mechanics of lower grade and inform supervisor of issues.
• Coordinate repairs and inspections with Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown/startup of HVAC systems.
• Overhaul compressors, condensers, and related equipment; diagnose and repair HVAC/heating/refrigeration problems.
• Recharge HVAC/refrigeration systems with refrigerants and verify operation after power loss.
• Install, repair, and inspect HVAC/refrigeration equipment including chillers, cooling towers, DX units, window units, ice machines, and related systems; ensure no unauthorized gas release and comply with EPA guidelines.
