Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform skilled trades related to heating, ventilation and refrigeration across campus. The role includes routine repairs, trouble calls, system analysis, and regulatory compliance with EPA guidelines.

The incumbent will be on a rotating on-call schedule and is considered essential personnel during disasters. The incumbent will work hourly with a 40-hour week in a university environment, maintaining performance of chillers, DX

Qualifications

• EPA Universal Certification is required.
• Minimum: high school diploma and three years related HVAC/refrigeration experience.
• Commercial driver's license may be required for some positions.
• EPA-approved Freon recovery certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain work area and job site in clean and orderly manner and perform miscellaneous and related duties as required.
• Supervises and instructs mechanics of lower grade. Brief supervisor of any problems that may affect proper operation of equipment.
• Coordinates repairs and inspections with Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown and startup of air conditioning systems throughout campus.
• Overhauls compressors, condensers and other equipment; diagnose and repair HVAC/heating/refrigeration problems using proper tools and meters.
• Recharges air conditioning systems with refrigerants as necessary; reset systems after power failures and calibrate controls.
• Installs, repairs, and inspects HVAC/Refrigeration equipment and associated systems; ensures no unauthorized gas releases and complies with EPA and other guidelines.

Education

High school diploma

Trade apprenticeship or equivalent

Commercial driver's license
