Job summary

SURGE Staffing is seeking a Senior HVAC Technician to join our Service Delivery team. The role installs, services, maintains, and troubleshoots commercial and critical-environment HVAC systems in client sites such as cleanrooms, laboratories, and healthcare facilities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical expert who can diagnose complex issues, work with controls/BMS, and communicate professionally with customers. Occasional after-hours may be required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience servicing/commercial or critical-environment HVAC systems.
• Experience with HVAC controls and building management systems.
• EPA Section 608 certification preferred; Universal certification highly preferred.
• Experience in cleanrooms, laboratories, healthcare, or regulated environments is desirable.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems including AHUs, chillers, exhaust systems.
• Perform advanced diagnostics, identify root causes, and complete high-quality repairs.
• Troubleshoot using field data, system readings, and customer input.
• Work with controls and BMS to diagnose equipment and system issues.
• Communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations to customers.
• Respond to service calls, including after-hours as needed.
• Maintain safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in all tasks.

Schedule: 5 days/week; occasional nights and weekends required
Travel: Up to 50% to project sites and customer locations

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Technician to join our Service Delivery team. This role is responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial and critical-environment HVAC systems supporting cleanrooms, laboratories, healthcare, and other high-impact environments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical expert who can independently diagnose complex HVAC issues, work with controls and building management systems, and communicate professionally with customers. Timely response, quality workmanship, and reliable problem-solving are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, service, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial and critical-environment HVAC systems, including AHUs, chillers, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and related equipment.
• Perform advanced mechanical diagnostics, identify root causes, and complete high-quality repairs.
• Troubleshoot HVAC systems using field data, system readings, and information provided by other technicians or customers.
• Work with HVAC controls and building management systems to diagnose equipment and system issues.
• Serve as a professional, client-facing technical resource and clearly communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations.
• Respond to service calls, including time-sensitive and after-hours requests as needed.
• Maintain accurate service documentation and ensure work meets applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with controls technicians, service leadership, and cross-functional teams.
• Stay current with HVAC technology, cleanroom standards, and industry best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; HVAC/refrigeration trade school or associate degree preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience servicing and troubleshooting commercial or critical-environment HVAC systems.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience with HVAC controls and building management systems.
• EPA Section 608 certification preferred; Universal certification highly preferred.
• Experience in cleanrooms, laboratories, pharmacies, healthcare, or other regulated environments is highly desirable.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
• Strong customer service, communication, and independent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on rooftops, ladders, stairs, mechanical rooms, and occasionally confined or elevated spaces.
• Ability to wear required PPE and work in varying environmental conditions.
